This article explains how to create an Image QR Code using the QR Code Generator, from uploading images to downloading the finished code. It is useful for anyone who wants to share one or several images through a single scannable code.
An Image QR Code lets viewers open an image gallery landing page when they scan it. From there, they can browse and tap each image to view or download it—no long URLs or email attachments needed.
Because the Image QR Code is a Dynamic QR Code, its images and page content can be edited after the code is printed, and viewer engagement can be tracked.
A. When to use an Image QR Code
An Image QR Code suits situations where several images need to be shared at once:
- Product catalogs and lookbooks
- Event, wedding, or travel photo galleries
- Portfolios and artwork collections
- Infographics, posters, menus, and flyers
B. Image requirements
Each image must meet these limits before uploading:
- Number of images: up to 50 per QR Code
- Supported formats: PNG, JPG, and GIF
- Size limit: 5 MB or smaller per image
C. Create the Image QR Code
Follow these steps to build the code:
Step 1: Log in and start a new QR Code
- Log in to the account. New users can sign up for a 14-day free trial
- From the dashboard, go to QR Codes > Create QR Code
- Select Image QR Code from the list of categories
Step 2: Upload the images
- On the Main Page, click the upload area
- Select up to 50 images from the device; more can be added later
- Confirm each file is PNG, JPG, or GIF and is 5 MB or smaller
Step 3: Choose a page layout
Open Page Layout Options and choose how the gallery appears when scanned:
- List: one large image per row—good for a small number of images shown prominently
- Grid: compact thumbnail tiles—good for larger collections viewers can scan quickly
Step 4: Add a page title and sub-heading
- Edit the Page Title and Sub-heading that appear above the gallery. The defaults are "Image Gallery" and a short instruction to scroll and tap an image to preview it. Replace these with text that fits the images, such as "Spring Collection 2025"
Step 5: Add a cover page (optional)
Turn on the Cover Page toggle to show an intro screen before the gallery, useful for branding or context. Once enabled, the following can be added:
- Cover Image: a background or hero image for the intro screen
- Cover Title: a headline such as "Our Album"
- Button Text: the label on the button that opens the gallery, such as "See Images"
Step 6: Enable click tracking (optional)
- Enable Track Clicks to measure how viewers engage with the page. This data later appears in the Analytics section of the account
Step 7: Preview and continue
- Use the live phone preview on the right to check that the cover page and gallery look correct, then click Continue
D. Design, generate, and download
- Name the QR Code and, optionally, add Tags to keep it organized in the dashboard
- Customize the design by clicking Edit Design to change colors, patterns, or add a logo, or keep the default black-and-white code
- Download the QR Code in PNG, SVG, or EPS format and save it to the device
E. Test the QR Code
Before using it publicly, scan the code with a smartphone or QR scanning app. Confirm that the cover page (if enabled) and the image gallery load correctly and that each image opens as expected. If anything looks off, return to the editor and adjust the images or settings.
F. Edit later and track performance
Because the Image QR Code is Dynamic, images can be added, removed, or reordered, and the page text, layout, or cover page can be changed at any time from the dashboard—without reprinting the code. If Track Clicks is enabled, engagement data appears in the Analytics section. An active subscription is required to keep Dynamic QR Codes working beyond the 14-day free trial.
G. Troubleshooting and FAQ
An image won't upload
- Check that the file is a PNG, JPG, or GIF and is 5 MB or smaller. Compress or resize images that are too large, then try again
How many images can be added?
- Up to 50 images per QR Code. To add more, remove some images or create a second Image QR Code
The gallery looks cramped or hard to browse
- Switch the Page Layout between Grid and List. Grid suits large collections; List suits a few images shown large
Can the images be changed after printing the code?
- Yes. The Image QR Code is Dynamic, so images and page content can be updated anytime without changing the printed code, as long as the subscription is active
