This article explains how to set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) in your Scanova account for enhanced security.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to provide more than one form of identification to log in to an account, as opposed to Single-factor Authentication (login via password only).
In Scanova, using the MFA feature, you can setup and add another security layer using one of the following methods:
-
Email: Get code in the email inbox
-
Authenticator: Get code in Authenticator app
A. Enable MFA
Here's how to enable MFA on your Scanova Account:
- Login to the Scanova Account
- On the left sidebar, click on Profile > Login Method
- In the section Multi-factor Authentication, toggle the button to 'ON' to enable MFA
- Choose your preferred Authentication Method
In the subsequent sections, you'll be shown how to setup MFA via each method.
B. MFA Method — Email
During login, when users enter their email address and password, they'll need to enter another one-time password (OTP) or code. If users choose the Email method, they'll receive the code in the inbox of their registered email address.
In continuation to the above steps, here's how to set up Multi-factor Authentication via Email:
- Click on the Email button
- Click on Send Code
- Note that the code will be sent to the email address associated with the Scanova Account
- Enter the Scanova account's password for verification
- An email with the verification code will be sent. Note that the code is valid for 10 minutes only
- Enter the verification code in the MFA setup
- Click on Verify
After verification, 10 backup codes will be provided. If access to the multi-factor authentication code is unavailable, such as being unable to access email, one of these single-use backup codes can be used. It is important to download and store these codes in a secure location, as they will not be displayed again.
Once the steps are completed, the MFA setup with "Get Code by Email" will be finished. Each time the Scanova account is accessed, a code will be sent to the registered email, which must be entered to complete the login process.
C. MFA Method — Authenticator App
During login, after the email address and password are entered, a one-time password (OTP) or code will be required. If the Authenticator App method is selected, the code will be generated in the mobile authenticator application that was used during setup.
By default, the Google Authenticator application (available on both Google Play and App Store) will be prompted. However, any of the supported authenticator apps can be chosen: Supported Authenticator Applications.
-
Click the Authenticator App button
-
Enter the account password to verify identity
-
The next step requires downloading the Google Authenticator mobile app. Alternatively, refer to this list of supported apps: Authenticator Apps
-
Once the Google Authenticator app is downloaded, open it and click the + icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. The camera and scanning feature will be activated
-
Scan the QR Code displayed on the computer screen with the authenticator app
-
A row labeled "Scanova" will be added to the application, and a code that updates periodically will be displayed
-
On the setup screen, click the Next button
-
Enter the current code from the authenticator app to complete the setup
-
Download or copy the backup codes. The setup is now complete
From now on, each time the Scanova account is accessed, the current code displayed in the Authenticator App will need to be entered
D. Disable/Edit MFA
MFA can either be disabled (by toggling the button to 'OFF') or the method can be changed through the Login Method tab in the Profile section.
