This article explains how users can enable GPS tracking and Geo-fencing in Scanova to monitor scan locations and control access to QR Code content based on geographic regions.
Introduction
Scanova offers location-based controls that help businesses better understand and manage how their QR Codes are accessed. With GPS tracking, users can view the precise coordinates of QR Code scans for deeper insights into customer behavior. With Geo-fencing, access to the primary content of a Dynamic QR Code can be restricted to a defined geographic area, ensuring that only users within a specific boundary can view the intended content.
These features are especially useful for location-specific campaigns, region-based promotions, and controlled-access use cases.
A. Enable GPS tracking
GPS tracking captures the exact location of scans made on Dynamic QR Codes. To enable this feature, users must:
- Log in to the Scanova account
- Create a new Dynamic QR Code or select an existing one
- Click View/Edit QR Code
- Open Advanced Settings
-
Select Get Exact GPS Location of Scan & Geo Fencing
For existing QR Codes:
- Go to My QR Codes
- Select a Dynamic QR Code and click View/Edit QR Code
- Open Advanced Settings and select Get Exact GPS Location of Scan & Geo Fencing
- Click Update QR Code
B. View and download GPS data
When GPS tracking is enabled, users can view and export location data:
- Navigate to QR Codes Page
- Select the relevant QR Code
- Click View Analytics
- Review scan markers displayed on the map in the Scans by GPS Location section
To download detailed scan data:
- Click Export Analytics
- Download the report in Excel format
Note: The QR Code must have GPS tracking enabled for GPS data to be visible or downloadable.
C. Enable Geo-fencing
The Geo-fencing feature allows users to restrict access to QR Code content based on geographic location. To enable Geo-fencing:
- Log in to the Scanova account
- Create or select a Dynamic QR Code and click View/Edit QR Code
- Go to Advanced Settings
- Open the Exact GPS Location & Geo-fencing section
- Enable the Geo-fencing toggle
D. Set location and radius
Once Geo-fencing is enabled, users can configure the allowed region:
- Pin a location on the map or enter a specific address
- Set the radius (in meters) around the chosen location
Only scans made within this radius will display the primary content of the QR Code.
E. Configure fallback content
If a scan occurs outside the Geo-fenced area or if the user denies location access, fallback content appears. Users can set either:
- A custom fallback message
- A fallback URL to redirect users
This ensures that every scan receives relevant and controlled content regardless of the user's location.
F. Save and apply changes
After configuring GPS tracking or Geo-fencing:
- Click Update QR Code
All updates are applied immediately to the live Dynamic QR Code.
