Users can integrate their Microsoft Ads UET Tag ID with Scanova to track conversions from QR Code scans and measure campaign performance.
Introduction
Users can integrate their Microsoft Ads UET (Universal Event Tracking) Tag ID with Scanova to create a custom audience for retargeting. Here is how it works:
- The brand adds the Microsoft Ads UET tracking code to their QR Code.
- When someone scans the QR Code (for example, from a physical poster), the UET code executes during redirection to the website.
- The UET code records the scanner in a custom audience in Microsoft Ads. This audience does not contain personal contact information; it is a profile of users who interacted with the brand via the QR Code.
- The brand can then run digital retargeting campaigns using this custom audience. People who scanned the QR Code will now see the brand’s ads online, increasing engagement and the likelihood of conversion.
In summary, the QR Code acts as a bridge between offline engagement (scans from physical media) and online marketing. The Microsoft Ads UET pixel is used solely to build a retargeting audience for digital campaigns.
A. Set up Microsoft Ads integration
To configure the integration:
- Log in to the Scanova dashboard
- Go to Integrations
- Locate Microsoft Ads(UET) Integration
- Enter the UET Tag ID from Microsoft Ads (e.g., 123456789)
- Choose where to apply the tracking:
- All QR Codes
-
Selected QR Codes (choose from the dropdown list)
- Save the integration
The Microsoft Ads UET Tag ID will now be linked to the selected QR Codes.
B. Use a custom domain for reliable tracking
Scanova recommends configuring a custom domain for more accurate Microsoft Ads tracking.
- Cookies are stored at the domain level, and using the default domain (scnv.io) may cause tracking overlap across campaigns
- A custom domain ensures cleaner data, accurate segmentation, and reliable conversion tracking
To set up a custom domain, see: Set up a custom domain in Scanova
C. Redirection delay for tracking accuracy
For QR Codes in redirection categories (Website URL, Maps, and App Store), Scanova briefly shows an intermediate page for 2–3 seconds before redirecting to the final URL.
This short delay ensures that the Microsoft Ads UET pixel fires correctly and increases the chances of capturing conversion events.
