New Scanova is a rebuild of the whole app, so a few things sit somewhere different. Nothing you have made has been deleted, and nothing behaves differently. Your QR Codes, landing pages, forms, scan history and analytics all came across untouched, and every live QR Code keeps resolving exactly as it did.
This article is a lookup. If you are hunting for one specific thing, use your browser’s find (Ctrl+F / ⌘F) and type what you used to call it. The old names are all in here.
The one big change
Classic asked you to pick from a grid of 26 QR Code categories. New Scanova asks what you want the code to do, and gives you three routes. Every route ends in the same editor.
| Route | Use it for | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Quick Code | Anything that sends a person somewhere or hands them data: a website, a phone number, Wi-Fi details, a contact card | Under a minute |
| Build a Page | Anything where the QR Code should open a landing page you have designed | A few minutes |
| Describe with AI | The same as Build a Page, but you describe what you want and get a first draft to refine | About a minute |
You reach all three from Create QR Code.
The QR Code types themselves have not been reduced. They are grouped by intent now instead of listed in one long grid.
Where each QR Code type is now
All 26 Classic categories, grouped by where you will find them. Every old name is written out, so browser find (Ctrl+F / ⌘F) will get you straight to the one you want.
Renamed: check here first
Five types kept their job and changed their label. These are the ones people hunt for longest:
| In Classic | In New Scanova |
|---|---|
| Image QR Code | Gallery, under Build a Page |
| Business Card QR Code | Business, under Build a Page |
| Phone Number QR Code | Phone Call, under Quick Code |
| Text QR Code | Plain Text, under Quick Code |
| WiFi QR Code | Wi-Fi, under Quick Code |
Now under Quick Code
Quick Code describes itself as “direct-action QR codes — no landing page needed.” Two groups, and the difference between them matters. <!-- The em dash in that quote is the product’s own subtitle, copied verbatim. Leave it. -->
Dynamic: Website URL, Google Maps, App Store, App Deep Link, GS1. Each card is marked Dynamic. These resolve through Scanova, so you can change where they point after they are printed, and every scan is tracked. Website URL also supports redirection rules and UTM parameters.
Static Only: Phone Number (now Phone Call), Email, Text Message, WiFi (now Wi-Fi), Text (now Plain Text). These encode the information directly into the QR Code itself, which is why they work with no internet connection at all. The trade-off is that there is nothing to change afterwards and nothing to count: a static code can’t be edited once it’s printed, and it produces no scan analytics. If you might need to change the phone number later, use a Website URL code pointing at a page instead.
This is not new. Static codes have always worked this way. Classic just didn’t group them under a heading that said so, and New Scanova does.
Simple VCard and Calendar also belong here.
Now under Build a Page
Everything where the QR Code opens a landing page you have designed:
Document · Image (now Gallery) · Audio · Business Card (now Business) · Restaurant · Wedding · Event · Product · Real Estate · Feedback · Social Media · Coupon · Custom Page
You no longer pick a category first. Build a Page opens a gallery of ready-made templates, with the category names as chips along the top. Tap a chip to narrow the gallery, or scroll the whole set. So those names are still how the templates are organised; they are a filter now rather than a first step.
Document, Image and Audio work exactly as they did, including a Document QR Code with a single file, which still opens that file directly rather than showing a page.
Announcement is not one of your old categories. It is a new template under Custom Page.
Now Describe with AI
AI-generated Page QR Code is now one of the three main routes, called Describe with AI.
Pages have been retired
In Classic, Pages let you build a standalone landing page without creating a QR Code for it. That is the same thing as a landing page QR Code without the code. Now that building a page is one of the three main routes, keeping a separate Pages section meant two ways to do one job.
Your Pages have come across as QR Codes. If you had two Pages, you now have two QR Codes in your QR Codes list, and the pages themselves keep working exactly as before. Nothing to do.
There is no Pages item in the sidebar any more. Everything lives under QR Codes.
Landing pages are built differently
In Classic you picked a layout, then filled in its fields. In New Scanova you build the page from blocks: add them, drag to reorder, and edit each one in place on the page itself.
What that gives you:
- A live preview at mobile, tablet and desktop widths before you publish
- Themes to start from, instead of styling every block by hand
- Per-page settings: its own URL slug, SEO fields and an optional password
- An explicit Publish step, so you can save work in progress without it going live
Pages you built in Classic open in the new editor and keep working. Going the other way does not work. See Switching back to Classic below.
How to do the things you used to do
Create a QR Code that sends someone to a website, phone number or contact card Create QR Code → Quick Code → pick the type.
Create a QR Code for a document, image or audio file Create QR Code → Build a Page → pick the Document, Gallery or Audio template.
Create a QR Code with a landing page Create QR Code → Build a Page → pick a template.
Have a page written for you Create QR Code → Describe with AI → describe the page and refine the draft in the editor.
Find the Pages you built in Classic They are in your QR Codes list, alongside everything else.
Change how a QR Code looks: colours, patterns, eye shapes, logo Open the QR Code and click Edit Design. Design is no longer a step you pass through while creating the code. You create the code first, then style it whenever you like.
See your scan data Analytics in the sidebar, as before.
Check whether any of your QR Codes have problems QR Codes → Health Center. It runs five checks across your whole account: expired schedules, unverified domains, unpublished drafts, missing forms, and codes with no scans after 30 days. What it finds is ranked by how much of your traffic each problem is costing. It is new; there was no equivalent in Classic.
Attach or manage a lead capture form Forms in the sidebar, as before.
What else is new
There is more detail on each of these on the What’s new page.
- A rebuilt interface, with a proper dark mode that each person on the account sets for themselves rather than it being an account-wide setting.
- A new landing page editor: build pages from blocks, preview at three widths, publish when you are ready.
- Health Center: one page showing every QR Code with a problem, ranked by how much of your traffic each one is costing.
- Conversion tracking (Pro and above): follow a scan through to what people do on your own site, including pages visited, links clicked and how far they scrolled.
- Multi-page landing pages (Standard and above): several pages behind one QR Code, with navigation between them.
- AI Studio: describe the page you want and refine the draft it generates.
- Passkey sign-in, landing page themes, and Arabic and Simplified Chinese interface languages.
Switching between New Scanova and Classic
Only the account owner can switch. Switching moves everyone on the account together, so it is the owner’s decision. If you are not the owner, you can request it from inside Scanova and the owner gets an email.
To switch to Classic: Switch to Classic at the foot of the sidebar.
One thing to know before you switch back
A landing page built in New Scanova cannot be edited from Classic. The page keeps working normally, scans and analytics are unaffected, and you can still download its QR Code and change the code’s design. The content, though, is only editable in the new editor.
Pages built in Classic are fine in both.
Why can’t I see something?
Multi-page landing pages: available on Standard plans and above.
Conversion tracking: available on Pro plans and above.
AI Studio: on every plan, including Free Trial. The number of generations included depends on your plan, so if you have run out, you will need to wait for your allowance to reset or move up a plan.
Health Center shows my colleague more checks than me. Two of the five checks cover Forms and Custom Domains. If your role does not have access to those, those checks are hidden and the rest work normally.
